No, it is not known if it is due to consumption of bat.
The most common hypothesis is that it was a bat virus that migrated to a pangolin. My guess is it was started by someone who was handling pangolin meat.
Wuhan virology lab studying SARS was 280 meters from the market... Probably had horseshoe bat and pangolin test subjects and infected one of the workers....
Seems more likely than a bat, pangolin, and a human walking into a bar after not interacting for millions of years.

Guys this happened because people were following ancient superstitions and eating crazy animals and keeping all sorts of animals together
That's why we have strict laws in this country regarding how you raise livestock and care for them
They were keeping all sorts of exotic animals confined and they were keeping them in the same place they sell produce
This has been known to happen several times in recent history. It's a lesson that we all need to learn basic science and stop following crazy superstitions

Customs develop out of necessity. Starvation was a HUGE issue in China through 1970s. Chinese commoners on mainland then could not be like affluent in Hong Kong. Chinese broadened their food choices. Customs change slowly. Some in U.S. still eat pig innards.
