That trend is now visible. The number of new flu cases in the US peaked in mid-February and then plummeted by about 75%! You'd think someone in the media would talk about this... if only to point out that preventive steps work.

This is incredibly good news. 2020 week 9 shows a drop of 75 percent in flu cases.
If you look at 2019 weeks 9, 10, and 11 were peak flu season. So it appears corona virus mitigation is going to save several thousand lives who would have died from the normal flu.
This also shows that corona virus mitigation works. 75 percent reduction and that is before the more extreme measures of canceling public events and school sessions.
I suspect that the final toll will still be more deaths from corona virus but it is a fair point to consider all the effects of the mitigation.
