I attend a high school in Texas and we are a decent school when it comes to the distance events. We placed in the top 10 at the 6a state meet in cross country and have several sub 10:00 and sub 4:30 guys. When we approached our coach to run at the Texas Distance Festival he yelled at us and told us to never bring it up again. He chewed us out in front of the whole team and told us to either run the meets he schedules (with no competition) or quit. We had explained that we would pay the entry fee, and get ourselves to the meet on our own. All he had to do was sign us up. He told us that by having some of the distance team run this meet that it was taking away from the team aspect of track. He said we would not be able to go because it would be doing our own thing and not supporting the team. If this is the case then what is the point of individually qualifying for regionals, and state, isn't that doing your own thing?
Please help me know how to respond to this coach.
