Since it has never been cancelled, I doubt it will be cancelled this year. BUT:
I am sure the BAA is looking closely at what Tokyo did. I predict the BAA will do the same, restrict it to the elites (and maybe the first few qualifiers in all age groups), sharply curtail the number of volunteers and discourage spectators on the course.

Except Tokyo had a ton of spectators on the course. Dumb. I agree they'll go elite-only just to say it's never been cancelled.
If they go the elite only route, they would need to give a good amount of notice or a lot of runners will be upset.
Hotels and workers at restaurants will not be pleased. The city will lose a good chunk of money.
This is from the Massachusetts DPH. With 7 weeks to go, the "not at this time" part is the wild card. I would recommend to visitors that they hold off on making travel plans.

Should public events be cancelled?
No, not at this time. The health risk to the general public in Massachusetts remains low. Massachusetts state and local health officials are actively working to help protect the health of our residents and we have no indications that COVID-19 is spreading in our communities at this time.
What a useless statement. Thats is like if there is a forest fire one mile away with the wind burning in your direction...well, its not here so we will proceed as normal. The only difference is the fire is all around you, the wind is blowing at you from every direction, but instead of a 10mph wind, its coming 600mph from around the world.
The logical thing to do is cancel the race because COVID is not in Boston. Once it is there, eff it, its there, the damage is essentially done.
It will definately be cancelled. This is already a huge epidemy in the USA. It is not known, because you are not testing enough. This will be a full blown pandemic by all relevant models by the 20th of April. I would buy a lot of food and get ready.
1. Repent and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.
2. Buy whatever food preps you can.
3. Move away from anywhere under Democrat control, all those vegan hypocrites, 3rd wave feminists, Marxists, will be among the very first to go cannibal.
Definitely. How are they going to get volunteers? You know it's spreading in Boston. The math doesn't add up. If it's spreading in freaking Snohomish, it's spreading in Boston. People are refusing to work because of this issue. You think people will work for free?
Has it spread to Boston?
Are there documented cases?
I haven't been following the news closely the last week.
There was already a case in Boston a few weeks ago, so this changes nothing.
You know what will happen if they cancel the Boston Marathon? A baseball game will take place that day, right next to the course, with 35,000 people in close proximity for 3 1/2 hours. 60,000+ people from all corners of the country and globe will pass through Logan airport that day, and the next, and disperse into the community. Tens of thousands of Massachusetts families will go on vacation somewhere during school break week. The NBA and NHL playoffs will take place with 18,000+ fans in close proximity.
Unless they're shutting down airports across the country and cancelling major league sports, I don't see why the marathon should be treated differently. Come April, either the virus will be relatively contained despite millions of people traveling and attending gatherings every day, or it will be so widespread that cancelling the marathon won't help anything.
No it's not going to be canceled. Liberals are HOPING that it will be canceled to further tank the economy and to make the gufous president look bad. The Leftist, who clame to base their decisions off of science, well. Dont.
