Can anybody with physiology backgrounds comment on this? I’ve had a hard-to-diagnose issues for 8 years that I believe is psoas or iliacus related and think this might help, but I’m also concerned it could be dangerous. Thoughts?

As a massage therapist, I have spent plenty of time with my hands pressing into clients' psoas and iliacus muscles. It's not relaxing, but the benefits are often enormous, especially for longstanding back and hip issues that only seem to get temporary relief through other methods. I bought one of these thinking I'd use it with my clients, but I ended up using it for me!
It definitely helps to know your body, and to be patient with finding the right spots. If you're worried about pressure, you can lean into it against the wall to have more control. My iliopsoas was crazy tight in the beginning and I was surprised that I could put my full weight on this thing after the third session (I spent about 30-45 seconds of pressure on the psoas, same on the iliacus, in about two different spots along the muscle)
Just a practitioner's note: I tend to feel a burning/stretching sensation when I use my Hip Hook. This is the fascia stretching; it's a really different sensation than muscle, but perfectly safe. And essential in releasing the underlying muscles. I had two hip replacements at age 40, I can stand taller now than ever before, I'm a fan.
I bought it for long term issues. It has helped. It is all about finding the correct spot and I am never sure if i am using it correctly, but I am now learning when I have it in the correct place by how it feels. I have been battling imbalance issues since the 80s. I haven’t been able to run much for the past 10 years after surgery for a torn labrum. The running I have been doing since using this has been more comfortable and faster. I only use it a couple times a week.
Just read you reply. Yes, it is that slight burning sensation that lets me know I hit the right spot.
For me it left two big bruises on each side
