I like Sage and was really hoping he would qualify, but with Houston 33 days away, is it realistic to think he can qualify when he can only manage a 32:36 10K? Anyone think he can still do it?
Should he have come to the brojos for training help? Is there still time for them to help him?

Unless that's a really tough course or he was only trying to win then I don't like his chances at all. He won't be able to come close and apparently it's detrimental to his ultra performance as well.

It was a time trial to test his speed. The course was flat. 2nd place was a female in 38.xx minutes. 2nd place male was 42.xx minutes.

Maybe just home for the holidays and getting in a good effort.
I would say he was just doing marathon-pace run but if that's the case 13.1 makes more sense.
He tried to do everything for everybody to get more views on youtube.

Too little too late, due to lack of focus. Lack of consecutive high mile weeks and training, combined w/ wild swings in training style. Could have made it with at least two back to back quality training cycles focusing solely on marathon specific work. probably should have started 6 months ago. just my 2 cent
If you watch his video about the race, he was clearly disappointed. Says he will get bloodwork to see if something is up. But yeah, not promising especially at sea level!

Every time something goes wrong, the first thing he always goes to is bloodwork to see if anything is wrong. Just train more specifically and stop getting disappointed with mediocre performances on the roads off of training that mostly consists of slogging in the mountains.

Sage could have qualified if he just gives up the retarded (can I use the r word?) vegan dogma. A healthy portion of beef, pork, chicken, or fish with each meal would give him a huge boost in performance.
He doesn't need to do that although it is ridiculous that he's vegan in my opinion. It's his job to be the best athlete he can be and you cannot do that being vegan. Just eat a few damned oyster meals a week it's just as sentient as a plant. Sage is just all in on any surface any distance without really analyzing it. When was the last time he competed on the track? Or in the mile? Is that any surface any distance? No. Sage haphazardly attempts to qualify in the marathon on Olympic qualifying years. That is not any surface any distance. The shorter races serve as fitness tests. You're not trying to run your best in those races.

He'll run a 2:21 or so and not qualify - bank on that

Yeah, he definitely looked gutted by the result. The blood test thing was weird. Said he was going or get an “athlete’s blood test”? What the hell is that? Who gets blood tests? What is he wanting them to test for other than maybe iron, which he always claims is high? Only blood test I know any guy on my team ever got was for mono once.

It's a code word for Alberto Salazar. That's the only thing that would help Sage at this point with the lack of nutrients in his body.

He cannot even do training on a track because he lives in a strange place where tracks are owned by schools and because he is not a kid anymore, he cannot access those facilities. Everywhere else at least outdoor tracks are public spaces like parks where anyone can do their training when they want to.
He did one of JS’ magical workouts on a track recently, 20 x 400. He seemed to do okay, given how windy it was during that workout (and at altitude). I’m very surprised by this 10k. I’d have thought a low 31:xx would be the slower side if what to expect .
