This should be interesting. Even the worst team at ncaa's likely ran well at regionals (prob peaked there) and won conference/at least top 3 teams at conference. I'd call that a successful season.
New Mexico men scored 885 points in 2011. That's the worst I can find in recent history. On the women's side, Texas scored 862 last year.
So there are 31 teams, right? A perfect score would be 30 x 7 +1 -> 211, 212, 213, 214, 215 = 1065.
That would be an epic fail, and it looks like no one has fallen that flat on their face.

There were 252 finishers last year. Were there individual competitors and do they not count against team results?
Clarification please? wrote:

Individual qualifiers don’t count in the team school
Track & Field News used to have the results of every NCAA I Championship from 1938-present available on their site for free. It seems that they are now behind a paywall. Wish I had downloaded them.
Huh, I guess I never realized that 6 and 7-runners counted in scoring at Nats. If that's the case, then it's mathematically impossible for New Mexico's top man to earn fewer than 32 points. Even if that's the case, the average for 886 for 5 guys is 177-ish. for 252 finishers that's brutal. Another interesting stat would be how far last place is from second-to-last.
Middle Tennessee just threw their hat in the ring for worst team performance of all time this year. Got close to highest ever score, took 4 of last 5 finishing spots. Any team that does that bad should have a minimum 1 year ban from qualifying to the meet.
I saw that and was wondering what happened to them. Anybody have any insight?
Kenyan's can't run for sh*t in the cold. Take a look at their roster, all kenyans. They got second at their regional on a warmer day at ARP in Florida. Go up and race in cold inclement conditions and bomb. That's it in a nutshell.
In 1970 Citadel came in last place with 1,117 points.

Uggh that is epically bad . 266 other team runners in the race and your average finish Is 223. When they reduced the field down to 32 teams they should have called it the Citadel Rule,
Sorry I wouldn't accept "cold " for an answer. Many E.Africans have done better than that including Henry Rono in deep freeze. If they tanked they should be kicked out of school .If it can be determined that all was understood (that they would be givihg 100%)?

Was there qualifying then? I think for a while any school could send a team to nationals, but I'm not 100% confident in that and I do not know when it changed.
Did anyone notice Middle Tennesee State this year? No one dropped out but their top finisher was just 137th and they had 5 of the final 18 finishers including four of the final 5.
They scored 865.

Did rojo read any of the thread before posting? Does he ever? I guess he doesn't risk a reading comprehension ding since he doesn't read in the first place.
