The NCAA Division 1 CROSS COUNTRY championships are going to be run on the road because Buffalo got a few inches of snow. They are citing "poor footing, ice and student-athlete safety". This seems ridiculous. It is CROSS COUNTRY. The conditions are meant to be tough. Anywhere else in the world this would go ahead. Americans are just soft.
Those roads will still be tougher than the flat *** in the rest of the country.
In past years, it has been the slowest regional course by a lot. Winners are running in the mid 31s(Justyn Knight) - 32 flat.
This seems reason enough to not award Buffalo any more regional championships. If Buffalo's cross country course cannot support cross country for the running of a cross country regional championship because of weather that is not uncommon to the area at this time of year, then future meets should be held on courses that can. This isn't the worst thing in the world, but it is pretty lame. It is also something that is avoidable.
They got about 10 inches of snow, not a few inches, with more coming today

Teams have to bid to host the meet and Buffalo is the only school that put in a bid. It will be in Franklin Park in Boston for the next 3. I'm sure that when this mess is fully over, coaches will make sure that it isn't held in Buffalo again.
