What shoe is he wearing? Not in next 4%
2.11.05 in Houston 2016
Does NOT being in the elite start give him any disadvantages, like having to fight through the crowd? Or is there also a start for fast “non-elite” runners that allows them to compete fairly with the elites?

Don't think so -- just checked results.
Did find a 2:13:46 for 2nd in Pittsburgh May 2019.

It says his profile is 1:01 run in 2012.
He ran 1:01 in 2012. In 2018 he ran 32 and a half for a 10k and 31 the year before.
Sub elite starts on the other side of the upper level of the Verrazano but at the front on their start so there is zero crowd to work through. Toughest part of it would be getting a bead on the true elites as it’s a couple of miles before those two starts are fully integrated.
he was wearing the Next shoes

My favorite story of the day. Almost 8 minute PR...the TV guys kept calling him "citizen runner"...I checked his PR's on ARRS....and just can't understand this kind of improvement...I mean his PR for 10 miles is listed s 49:46.......can't wait to hear back-story.

It is pretty dope, I agree. Good to see a clean runner run well out of the general start!
What a whiff by David Monti. Denied a podium finisher an elite start in a year where the field was not nearly as big/deep as many previous races.

Gebre has lived here, though after the race he clarified it was only for a couple months and that the higher elevation in his current home of Ethiopia helped him train and excel in the United States [. . .]
"I’m going right back to Ethiopia quickly. I don’t know what my next race will be . . ."
Uh-huh......
