Rupp quit Boston 2018. Rupp quit Chicago 2019. Rupp has been a DNS so many times it is crazy.
I know that Geb and Bekele have had their issues, but in terms of a direct count and also a percentage of their entries, Rupp seems to be the most quitting elite athlete in the event.
He was already the most quitting athlete on the track, so when it comes to quitting he is dominant on all surfaces!
Probably bekele or kimetto. Those guys have had so many it’s a miracle they’ve finished any marathons at all.
It all started so innocently with a DNS…
Percentage-wise Rupp is #1 in DNS/DNFs per Finishes.
Maybe Dathan? Doesn't start quite often, just like this year's Chicago marathon. At least Rupp tried.

Morgan Uceny was the undisputed queen of DNFs. Poor girl just could not stay on her feet despite being arguably a top-3 runner in the world for a few years.

I know this is a troll thread, but I can't remember a single race where Rupp was entered and DNS'd, except a 10k in 2011 vs. Solinsky.
Sure, he dropped out of two marathons where he gamely ran with the leaders and dropped out when it no longer made sense to continue. Otherwise he has 6 solid finishes in his 8 attempts at the marathon.

On the contrary, Rupp is an extremely consistent marathoner. Never has bad races.
yea this is a little ridiculous esp. if you look at just one stat [I realize 10k != thon]
just look at his consecutive 10k national titles
so on the contrary I'd ask: 'Has there ever been a more consistent US runner than Rupp?'
There are several 2:06-type guys in Kenya with more DNF's than finishes on their resume. I just looked up a guy with 6 DNF on his ARRS page (London-2, Frankfort, Endhoven, Stockholm, Rotterdam ) and just 4 finishes. Good work wearing the pacer stripes when you are a sub-60 guy.
Plus add in the number of times AK did not approve their travel for races the RD's entered them you can pile on the many unknown DNS stats.

Salazar got to 8 before he quit, too (excluding Comrades).

Compare to the other names listed above and I think his record is pretty good.

Rupp (and most other elites) dropped out of Boston 2018 with hypothermia. His Prague win (fastest American born time) was actually only three weeks later.

What matters is when Bekele finishes in top shape he almost breaks world records. I definitely can live with the DNF's with that ability.

I don't know his overall record, but Chris Solinsky had some spectacular DNF's after getting bullied by an Ethiopian half his size.

You're joking, right? He used to DNS and DNF track races all the time.
Quitting 3 out of 8 lifetime marathons is pretty weak.
