Hassan, Kipchoge, Bekele, now Kosgei.
Not to mention the likes of Edris and Big Mac going from also-rans mid season to back to their best within weeks for Doha.
It's just getting crazier and crazier.
Is there a new form of EPO out, or maybe some new endurance drug even better? I've heard that SARMS are what's hot right now, some say the GW thing is way more effective even than EPO, although it gives your body 100 different tumors within a few years of dosing on it.
Or maybe it can be explained by the cheater shoes and other tech doping (in addition)?
Out of these only Hassan (which I will not discuss here) is connected to a coach/running club that violated anti-doping laws. We can't just assume that any good performance was due to doping.
Kosgei is a raw distance-talent, she does not have much speed but really excels at the longer races. She can race at a very high percentage of her VO2MAX and her threshold is just amazing.
Bekele is the best distance runner of all time. Someone just IS the best. His stride, genetics, VO2MAX, treshold all are excellent even compared to the other best runners in the world. You realize how talented someone is when he can just drop 15 lbs over a few months without training super hard and throw down a 2:01. That's what a true 12:37/26:17 runner is capable of, you really think he somehow evaded the WADA for all these years?
Kipchoge was cheating, but it was simply announcing a lower age when he beat the Two Great's in Paris than he actually was. He didn't know his exact age himself, he said he was only one year older, I think it was more like 2-4 years older than the 18 he was supposed to be. I don't think he cared much when he entered his age at that time. He has been at the top too for 20 years consistently - if he would be doping his body over 20 years, there is no way he could still hammer a sub 2. That's talent + hard work.
