Still looked smooth. Who clipped him that took his shoe off?

On what lap? Didn't see anything wrong.
Not sure. I saw the replay after the race but I didn't see it in real time. He tried to pass someone on the inside when there was no space to do so on straightaway. He ended up getting off balance since the runner he was passing held his position (rightfully so) and stepped off the track for 3 steps. DQ.

Yep. I think this is a pretty straight forward DQ. It was totally unnecessary, also - there was no need to pass on the inside like that. Hopefully he learns not to panic in the future.
I agree with you. Straightforward DQ. I'm not sure he panicked . I think he was being lazy and too cute, trying to hug the rail and then doing an inside pass. He didn't have room to pass there. It came on a turn.

That looks like a DQ....
And Chelimo gunned it for the line why?
Sounds like Jakob is in the final.

How would they know already?
Isn't there time for someone to protest?
Incidental contact.
No advantage gained.
DO NOT DQ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This final is already full of frauds and dopers. Excluding this clean prodigy would be downright criminal.
Filip; looks like they spoke a moment afterwards, so I'm sure it was just a racing moment and Paul looked fine with it, considering he won. It probably helped that his sock sorta stayed on so he likely didn't get too much blistering on the ball of his foot. Still has to sting!

This is bs that quigley got dqed in 2017 for stepping on the edge of the line and this is not a DQ. Officials need to go by the rule book all the time or not at all they cant just decide when it's convenient for them

FWIW, the IAAF results site STILL doesn't have any 5000 results up, even after the 2nd heat has finished. They haven't been finalized apparently.

The Quigley DQ was BS too.
Incidental bumping and contact happens. Not DQ worthy.
There's the letter of the law and spirit of the law. I agree with this decision.
Love how everybody here thinks the Norwegians are clean just because they're white. Nobody thinks it's suspect that Norway goes from like 3 Olympic medalists in running events in there history to now being favored to win a couple in this World Championship?

Henrik's response on Norwegian broadcasting:
He things Jakob will not be DQed as the other runner moved out after, saying that indicates that there was a little shove.
Letter of the law would be
Jakob and Chelimo DQ.

You guys realize that running inside the track can still net you an advantage even if you aren't running less distance by doing so? Say I want to pass a pack of guys who are running side-by-side across 4 lanes. If I cheat and run inside the track on a straightaway, though I'm not running extra distance in the race, I'm still gaining advantage by not going around my competitors legally.
So just b/c he didn't run extra distance, that doesn't mean it isn't a DQ. I argue it is against both the letter and SPIRIT of the rule.

Yes, there was an advantage gained. There were 200 meters left. He didnt have to run as far as he would have because a) he cut part of the turn and b) if he hadn't cut the turn, he would have have to either stay in the back or go way wide.
Seeing them enforce the steeple rules, I want this to be enforced. Brits should protest as then Butcharrt gets in. I'll be SHOCKED if Brits don't protest and Butchart doesn't get in.
Remember didn't another Ingebrigtsen get DQd from Euros for exactly the same thing? What race was that?
Agreed.
So the inside rail of the track on straights is no longer valid? Got it.
(There was no bumping here, Jakob went inside when there was no room. There's no other way to explain it.)
