Ive had my Asics for 1 and a half years, I know that because I bought them when I started running again and havent replaced them. I've done about 1300 miles in them. I noticed slight pains in my shins in the last two months but nothing that stopped me running, and I've had a heavy racing season the last 3 months. Guess I'm lucky, but I will keep an eye on mileage from now on. I bought a new pair tonight for $110, I'm in the UK so I dont know what they cost over there. But I sure wont be changing them after 300 miles, I mean for some of the heavy runners out there thats 3 weeks? ridiculous.
So this alternating shoes thing, how much life does that add to the shoes?
Rotating your shoes, in my opinion, is very valuable if you run every day. If you only run 3-4 times a week, though, you'll probably be OK w/ only 1 pair. BTW, I alternate 2 pair of Asics 21XX (new model every year) and consistently get about 800 miles per pair running 6-7 days per week. However, the guys at my local shoe stores say I"m not the norm but rather am blessed w/ an extremely efficient gait and wear pattern. But I see no reason that a normal user couldn't get at least 500 miles from a pair of shoes if they were only used every other day.
