Aren't you the guy who has never coached before? Lane won Footlocker twice and is at Dartmouth focusing on getting a degree more than anything. I'd say she's doing just fine.

Translation: even she knows she is a burn out . Going from national champion to J.V. runner on a poor college program in 20 months . Wow

No one is downplaying her successes. She was an incredibly talented runner with high VO2MAX and mental toughness.
https://youtu.be/LZ0MHzhfIaY?t=49Look at her form compared to all the other girls. They got smooth strides, their coaches probably did plenty of drills and strides with them and work to improve form. Lane's form didn't change in years, that's the first thing a world-class coach like Salazar would have changed with her. What happened is she got injured (heavy heel striking, bad hip cadence, looking more like speedwalking than anything) and wasn't able to unleash her "motor" and her talent.
On the other hand, Tuohy had one of the best HS coaches. He had great workouts, lots of focus on form and strength and conditioning. The difference in form between them is like night and day. Lane might have had the motor of a Tuohy, but with her form she is so inefficient that she requires way too much oxygen to run fast paces, in addition to the injury risk with such a form.
She was like Jakob Ingebrigtsen from 14-17 years old, super talented. The difference is Jakob has a great coach, not random coaches from Malibu HS which don't know how to train exceptionally talented athletes.
https://youtu.be/0TRZBHS7zyQ?t=54Another example - look at how loud it sounds when she hits the ground. That impact force is huge, no wonder she was injured for so long. This has nothing to do with her wanting to do well in academics and randomly giving up running as one of the most promising in the country. The injuries and struggles are what ruined her career, nothing else.

Yeah because that worked so well with Mary Cain.
Yea, who cares if she could coach, she dresses well, everything matches, looks like she is trying to look the part of a hobby jogger.

poor college program is pretty inaccurate. Girls went to nationals the last two years in a row and the guys went the year before. Abbey Dags, Ben true, dana giordano, will geohegan, etc. hardly a poor program
Doesn’t look like she is going to help them get back there
Spoken like someone who reads a lot online and thinks they have it all figured out despite absolutely zero experience.
Jeez, in that mile her cadence is twice as fast as the whole field. And only wins by 2 seconds getting closed on hard the last lap. I think she just relied on her combination of aerobic engine and lightness to win, so when puberty came and she gained a bit of weight her muscles couldn't handle the harder pounding, leading toward injury. Hopefully, Dartmouth has a good strength coach who can build Lane up to improve her power/form. She was a lower mileage runner in high school(coach said she was about 40 miles a week for track) so with higher mileage and strength, hopefully she can make a comeback.

Awesome. I'm glad to see she's doing so well.
Dartmouth appears to have a really good program both for women and men.
Well, you have definitely established yourself as an expert. Could you please start a thread on the importance of hip cadence? Thanks!
Changing someone's stride is harder than you think and impossible to do in any significant way. Why didn't Salazar change his own stride?

Who cares you wanna be?
Good catch . That is one strange strange training video . It seems like neither the coach or the athlete had ever been involved in sports before . Ever their mannerisms are just odd.
Super high cadence with low knee lift, her arms very tight and swinging diagonally across her body, moving from side to side on each stride, even noticeably more labored (but faster) than the others in that race, and all over the map on that 400m repeat workout, 67 up to 74. So, she was very fast but the form was going to be prone to injuries and was not efficient. No doubt a huge heart and ultimately she burned out. Good that she is running for fun. This should really be the last thread about her running unless there is one of those very rare returns to form for a prodigy like her.
I assumed that was a 5k. For a 6k, not too bad as a start. Way, way off what she could do in hs but not a bad race considering she's not been running at a high level for almost two years now, I think.

I never thought Mary Cain's form was all that bad. Thought it quite effective, if not textbook.
What do you think?

Agreed,
not a bad start, could seriously improve a lot from here and get back to form. I hope you all do realize Tuohy is about to have the same thing happen. It's nothing to do with form and all to do with trying to win everything in HS. Not a good idea.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
