Did a time trial on Westerville's track today at 7 pm. 22:47.
Splits: 7:17, 7:16, 7:15, 0:58 for 200m kick. A 22:47 5k is slow, I know, and it's equivalent to a slow 3:35 marathon. :/
I feel discouraged. I was expected it to be a little bit faster (I normally run sub-21 on these in the past!), as I'm a 55 mpw runner and that should be enough for a 5k base. It was 83'F, 68'F dewpoint and 72% humidity. I'm using it as a marathon training fitness check, and I went out at 75% effort, but not all out. I didn't realize the heat would have such a impact on the times; I knew it would a little bit but not that much.
I did take it easy and ran 4 miles at 9:15-9:20 pace to recover, being mindful of not chasing a bad workout with another bad one after that. The weird thing was--my lungs felt strong and fine, and I did my pulse check (141 heart rate, just by a rough calculation by my finger [I don't have a HR monitor], 47 beats in 20 seconds, so about 141 in 60 seconds).
But my legs throughout the run felt rubbery and like I was running in water. I even did my usual dynamic stretches (butt kicks, karaoke, high knees, and upper body stretches) to warm up. I got 7 hours of sleep the night before; average, but not horrible.
PS
When will this heat and summer end? I can't wait for it to cool off. Ohio is a crappy state for weather.
