Sorry if it’s long, I’m not the best at explaining things but I would REALLY appreciate some advice as I am a bit stressed out and unsure of what to do!!
Coming up soon I have an athletics carnival which I have qualified for. It’s a state level carnival but only a certain type of school so it’s a bit slower than your usual state athletics carnival.
My main focus in athletics is the 400m and I really want to break the one minute! I have won the 400m at this level previously but was not happy with my time and I really would like to run a good time this year. I also qualified for the 100m, 200m and 800m. I’ll be competing in the 100m and 200m but the 800m is the event I am unsure of.
I was tossing up whether to race in the 800m as it’s the first event of the day and if it’s going to negatively impact my 400m I would be quite disappointed. I decided to go down to my local athletics field and run a timed 800m. The time I ran would have won last years 800m event by 7+ seconds. This made me think I would like to race the event as I am interested to see what sort of time I could do at competition and see if I can take a top position finish. But I’m concerned it will impact my other events!!! I had basically decided I would do it but then my very new coach says I shouldn’t do it as it’s the first event and it will wear me out for the rest! Is this true? What should I do guys!! I really want to run a great 400m time and I am definitely competing in 100m and 200m but I would like to compete in the 800m if that’s a good decision.
The event schedule goes:
800m
(Hour break)
100m
(Hour break)
200m
(Four hour break)
400m
