PR - mile: 4:28 (2014) 5 km: 15:43 (2014), 8 km: 26:55 (2014)
Hey guys, I am thinking of racing a road mile in 3.5 weeks and I hope to break 5 (ideally around 4:55). The problem is, I have only been running roughly 0-5 mpw since 2015. Lately I have been running 4 days a week and I am on track to hit ~ 20 mpw this week, and I have run a few weeks in the 15 mpw range now.
To give a brief history: I ran two years in high school and in my first track season I ran 2:08/5:02/10:58 on no winter training and ~ 20-25 mpw in season. My second xc/track season I ran 4:38/10:18/16:33 on ~ 35-40 mpw.
I continued training two years after high school and increased my mileage to ~ 55-60 mpw (got hurt) and ran my PRs during this time.
I feel good training lately, I should say that I work a fairly active job so I feel that this fitness may be carried over into my current running fitness. I am thinking of doing a mile TT this weekend to get an idea of where I am at.
Is a sub-5 mile possible in so little time? If I was younger still I wouldn't doubt myself, but I currently weigh about 20-30 lbs more than I did back then.
Thanks for any and all input!
