Sara Hall will run Berlin and NY 5 weeks later ! The trials are two months later, hope she will recover

We can thank Meb (+ the hilly 2020 layout) for what he did finishing 7th here in '15 & then winning the Trials for the strong American field this year. Think there were really just a handful of American elites in '15 on the men's side- I see Meb, Leon, Arciniaga. On the women's side- Thweatt.

Now we have Abdi, Ward, and a list of a dozen guys who will try to run 2:12ish or better. Linden, Taylor, Hall, on the women's side. This will be a good preview to see who might be a true contender 17 weeks later.

He did a long run in Vomero 13s the other day. All the other guys had Next%s or Vaporflys. He'll be ready.

No women are a factor for Tokyo. Hasay, Huddle, Sisson, Cragg and maybe Flanagan are the 5 players on the women's side.

Gerda Steyn is going to drop a 2:24.

We really don't know about Cragg + Flanagan. I think Hasay, Huddle, Sisson, are the favorites, and may very well make up the team in whatever order they finish. I chose my words carefully. I said it's a preview to see who might be a contender. If Linden, Taylor, or Hall, really throws down, then I think it bodes well for their chances in Atlanta.

Like I'd bet if she smokes Berlin she will DNF or coast NY (but collect the appearance $) to prep for Trials.

That was quite common in the 70s for top marathoners to do that. She claims she can do that because she doesn't starve herself, that is get down to a "race weight"

Sara Hall will not make the Olympics

She will be going to the Olympic trials after running 3 marathons in a Calendar year

Boston - April 2019

Berlin - September 2019

- - 2 months apart --

NYC Marathon = November 2019

---3 months apart---

Olympic Marathon Trial = February 2020

I guess it runs in the family to run too much. That is insane

Do Berlin, call it a wrap, and then do a half marathon about 2 months before the trial.

Jared Ward wrote a blog post for saucony about why he is running new york. He mentions that part of the reason is to provide for his family which makes sense with a million tiny mouths to feed. Hope he does well at new york and the trials. He's fun to follow.

I respect Jared Ward for being honest and wanting to get paid for his efforts. It’ll be interesting to watch his face during the last mile to see if he’s mentally calculating the jock tax on his prize money.
