I don't like the orange/purple gradient colors. It looks better black & white which they showed at one point in the Twitter video.

How much money was wasted on this rebranding rather than put into purses for events/athletes?

Well they clearly took the money out of trying to clean up the sport and instead going for a 'fresh' look for of accepted athletics where men can compete as they please and you can dope as much as you want.

Dumb and unnecessary. Of all things this wasn't what needed changing. I will purposely go out of my way to insist its still the IAAF in the future.

Deeply ingrained ineptitude that shows no sign of being dealt with No clue whatsoever in terms of how to package an event to their core audience (and actually seem to be getting worse on that front which is nigh impossible) SO much possibility so little leadership and creativity

It's a good, if not great, name but a somewhat tacky video that doesn't grab the viewer's attention - annoying clicking rhythm, 'walk' is before 'run,' and it has no dramatic appeal. It has the simple, elegant feel of a Keynote slideshow. But such an announcement deserves more than that. It deserves great, powerful music blaring strong and video clips of great, powerful athletes - Jesse Owens, Florence Griffith-Joyner, Sebastian Coe, Usain Bolt, Kenenisa Bekele, and so on (list off top of head, with no offense to greats not included).

Clips should also include dramatic events, like the greatest finishing kicks or sudden pace changes. Examples of dramatic track events include finishing kicks of Berezovskiy in 2004 and Wottle in 1972; Alan Webb's infamous 100-meter surge in the middle of a race; John Ngugi's surge from the slow pack in Seoul; Mo Farah drinking water during track race and the officials moving water stations in after that; Khalid Shah's nefarious victory in the 1992 10,000; Bolt and De Grasse looking, smiling at one another at the end of 200m race. The video had no drama, despite the name being a good one.

Name change is fine, the old name is too long. But they should know better than to say "ready, set, go!" in an ad! Don't they know their own rules for a legal start?

Logo looks like they might be getting a class action copyright call from VO5/Vidal Sassoon.

It looks like they took the AT&T logo and cut it in pieces.

They should have gone with something like NBA and taken a silhouette of someone absolutely dunking on a track and field event

1) World Athletics is way better than IAAF so all in all this is a good idea.

World Athletics Championships etc is just easier than "IAAF World Champs".

Seems like slowly the IAAF is trying to implement some change which is great. Having a more modern name, logo and promoting head to head matchups is a good thing.

Granted some of the changes are off the mark. (ie possibly putting in a 3k instead of a 5k at Diamond League.) But I can give them the benefit of the doubt. Still think with DL changes it might be best to have less of each event in the DL than scrapping some events entirely. 400 hurdles is hot this year, but was an afterthought 2 years ago. Say the changes had come in last year and it was scrapped, then fans would be missing out on one of the best events this year. Same thing say with long/triple jumps sometimes.

2) Agree with poster above that they could have made a much better video. And why put "Walk" before other stuff? They're trying to modernize the sport. People who are going to be drawn to sport by a new logo are going to want to see cool competition highlights, etc.

3) How do we still not have the situation with the Olympic Trials sorted out yet? A total lack of leadership by USATF but to a lesser extent IAAF. They say they are trying to promote head to head matchups. We have an Olympic Marathon Trials with millions of $ invested in it and there is a simple fix to allow it so the top 3 make the team, yet they still haven't done it. Unbelievable.

I like how they have placed Mountain Running at the center of the logo. Athletes like Kilian Jornet and Jim Walmsley have broader appeal than the Kipchoges of the world.

This is the future based on data.

What difference does it make? World Athletics is just another word for Graft & Corruption.
