This is sad.. has there ever been any pro runners that lost in a marathon to a woman in recent memory?

It is not a marathon. It is a 86.83km ultramarathon. Anything can happen and normally does happen during these races, especially with all the travel, time change, and diet issues. It isn’t like this a flat Chicago Marathon.

Allison Roe beat Shorter in NYC 1981.
At super long distances women are just about as good as men

What if you fix the diet issues, can anything still happen then?

Myth. The women's 100m record is proportionately closer to the men's 100m than the women's 100K record (which is the strongest women's ultra record).
The myth arose because long ultras tend to have fields under 200-500, with low depth at the front end, which opens the door for women like Camille and Courtney to win overall.
It's a myth for shorter ultra distances but not 100 and 200 miles. Women routinely win 100 and 200 mile races. They very rarely win 50 mile and 100k events because they simply don't have the speed to beat the leading male runners and long endurance is less of a factor in those distances.
How "routinely" do they win UTMB, Western States or Hardrock 100? How about even once for a truly competitive race (field more than 500)?

Guys Adola 2:32 in London 2018 was beaten by plenty of women that year(I know the women and men were separated but does that count)? That was only 7 months after a 2:03.
Felisa Lelisa got a silver in the Rio thon and in London 2017 ran 2:14 or something like that. It was less than 3 minutes faster than Keitany's epic marathon that year.
Technically Bekele has been beaten by every female finisher in several marathons. All of them! DFL.
There's a lot of time for things to go wrong in an ultra or marathon. A lot of pros have been chicked. Sage was also chicked at UTMB - probably why he stopped doing 100(+) milers for now. Walmsley was chicked at his first Western States after getting lost.
Gerda Steyn ran sub 6 hours breaking the up run record by over 10 minutes. In Comrades this is the greatest performance in the 98 year history of the race it's a time many thought a woman could never get. Sage did ok he still beat many of the good Comrades runners.
This was almost 30 minutes quicker than when Camille won it two years ago.
Wow, runner gets beat by another runner. Why do some have such a big chip on their shoulder if that runner which was better trained for the race and therefore faster and stronger was a female?
Sage came 20th in one of the most testing Ultramarathons in the world.
Mock if it makes you feel better.
Never has such a classy dude been harassed by such a world class level of d*ck-riding losers in the history of this site.

So what?
A lot of men got beaten by Gerda Steyn at Comrades.
Please report back when you have finished your first ultra.

Women don't routinely win 100 and 200 mile races. This only happens if the women in the starter field are a lot stronger than any men, like Courtney Dauwalter. If top men are at the start line that does not happen.
