I recently had an MRI done and was diagnosed by my doctor (that is a doctor at a sports medicine clinic) with Os trigonum syndrome/Flexor hallucis longus tenosynovitis. It is either one or the other, or a combination of both. "so called" Os trigonum syndrome is not known to exist so they are saying I may have it, pending its existance. I know very little of these conditions, other than the possibility of a loose bone fragment in my ankle.
My doctor said she would contact an orthepeidic specialist/sugeon and that I should expect a phone-call from this guy in 1-2 months. After that she said to expect at least 4 months to get some kind of surgery! I was told that a cast would not heal my injury. I want to get back into training and to compete VERY BADLY, but unfortunately I do not know when this will come.
I'm only 18, and though I've been running competatively for about 6 years, I don't believe I have run too many miles.
The ankle injury was triggered last june during a training run, it felt like I spraigned it or something. Around that time I was peaking for a 3k on the track, and my milage was VERY low, like 30 mpw. Also, in my 5 years of running before this injury-my first real injury ever (the only next closest thing to an injury I had ever had was a mild case of IT band syndrome, sore hip)- I had always been 30-40 mpw for the duration of a season, maxing at 60-70 mpw only for a few months at a time. I was like most high schoolers these days, run on a low milage heavy interval emphasised system.
