Since tackling is supposedly not that painful in general, in what ways does football make you a better street fighter? Does it in any way simulate the kinds of contact you'll get in a MMA bout?
an mma bout is nothing like a street fight, it's two people chosen to be fairly evenly matched, confined in a small space where neither can maneuver much, and both are committed to fighting until there is a decisive outcome.
A street fight is where any number of people start yelling insults, someone maybe runs up and throws a wild haymaker then runs, then another group runs up with knives and baseball bats and everyone else leaves the scene and the knife/bat gang struts around in triumph. Maybe someone gets hit on the head or stabbed in the process, maybe not.
Tackling doesn't hurt because it's on the grass, but a good tackler can make it hurt. And a good football player can "win" a street fight by running up, tackling someone - which is both painful and humiliating on pavement - then evading their friends. Street people are slow.
