Bump
There are a lot of 2:22 guys out there... I feel for him, but it's nothing special besides him not trying to find an apartment and/or a better job.
It’s not hard to work a full time job and still do workouts and run 100-150 miles a week. As far as actual training time goes our sport is about as easy as it comes.
I think many of these “Van down by the river” types would be living in a van down by the river regardless of their other exploits. There’s nothing wrong with that. To each their own.

He followed me on IG a few months ago, I am a nobody but a regular runner, maybe a hair above an average hobby jogger lol, but nonetheless..a very cool story for himself!
Chase after the dream, no reason to criticize or bash somebody's path! Good luck Colby!!
When you graduate college, you're supposed to have real life plans. He is sub-sub elite. The end goal is working at the shoe store.

Right, I'm not seeing any angle other than #vanlife. He wasn't good enough in college (off of max training) to justify sacrificing career development, he just wants to be a running dirtbag bum. He's got a long ways to go to make the OT and a short time to get there. Maybe he'll find the #BoulderMagic so many think will just rub off on them by living there. It would be far more interesting if he qualified for the OT while working in Dallas, developing his apparel startup as a side hussle, and starting up a blue collar training group there.
Is he millennial enough?

Keyboard warriors out in full effect. Bet you're walking taller now.
If you read the article, this guy is not a slouch.
"When he wasn’t running, eating, or sleeping, he was working part-time, splitting his time between a running store, coaching online, and his own apparel company, Nomad Running Co." He also plans to pursue an advance degree in computer networking.
He's young and he's got a sweet van. Lay off.
Does he live down by the river?
To each their own. If you are going to do something like this, do it when you are young. Wise move to go from Texas to Boulder. I couldn't imagine trying to sleep in a van in Texas during the summer. At least if it is cold, you can use more blankets. The real concern with living in a van would be avoiding upper respiratory issues (in the summer you could open the windows, in the winter you run the risk of mold getting into everything).
Here's what I'd do if I were him.
1) Keep the van. A '76 G30 is very useful and parts are cheap, so no issue with breakdowns. The 350 is solid small-block Chevy power.
2) Keep running.
3) Get apartment.
4) Start off and work at a running store. This leads to...
5) Having a platform to do side gigs/products and social media...
6) Which leads to potential sponsors and more cash flow, plus networking.
I re-read it and realized he's at a running store. Nice move!

Which you've never done and never could do.

We're talking about running, not sitting on a couch, getting fat and lifting a few weights.
"I am a nobody but a regular runner, maybe a hair above an average hobby jogger" . Stop labeling yourself like this. Everyone on letsrun.com compares themselves to the world's top runners and if they don't feel they have any worth they feel as though they can appease the trolls here and simply dog themselves to not get belittled on the forum. You're better than you think.
How about you go out and run a 2:22, come back and let us know THEN how big a bum this guy is. So many suckers here can't hold on one mile at the pace most of these low 2:20's marathoners run.
Hey, he's already faster than Rojo, so he can hang his hat on that.

Thank you. It's beyond tired how this dummy acts like he's some sage just because he's old and been posting here a while. There's a template for that on any message board, and there are others of that ilk here like HRE, but it's unaware and without value, strictly self-indulgent egotism.
