The solo tarts at 4:05. I think this easily exceeds anything Eric Clapton has done.

Christopher Cross is a passable solo guitarist, but he's no where near great, and there are tens if not more of no name guitarists in any city who can play better. YouTube is crawling with high school kids who are better at guitar than that.
Also, I hope the solo starting at 2:05 was the one you meant. Clapton is way better.

I hope you were joking about this. That was OK, nothing spectacular.

Are you sure Jimi saw action in the rice paddies of Vietnam?
Hendrix never served in battle. He was discharged while training in Kentucky, after injuring his back. This was the official reason given, but many suspect the army wanted him out because he was lazy and not a promising soldier. Seems plausible. Either way, it worked out pretty well for the universe. He was the GOAT, by light years.
Not best but top ten.
Bonus points for smoking a cig while playing it.

Most overrated guitar player of all time. Totally unlistenable. Anyway, it might have worked out for the universe but as for him, he was dead within a few years.

Joe Satriani, who can play a little himself. has said the single greatest guitar solo in rock is Hendrix's solo in "Machine Gun", live at the Fillmore. End of thread.
A nod to Prince
I like the beginning of "Samba Pa Ti' by Santana and 'The Sensitive Kind' by Eric Clapton.
Knopfler, Keagy, Petrucci, EVH, Zappa, Shaun Lane, Prince, Hendrix, Pat Metheny, Buckethead, Malmsteen, all incredible.
And Eric Johnson...
Damn, almost forgot Jeff Beck!
Duane Allan in about 3:40.
