He won Dubai in 2:04 flat in 2018 and then PB'd on a different course. No man has won Dubai and not have that hold up as their PB since Haile (who had run quicker in Berlin before his Dubai victories). The only other was Lemi Berhanu (who did end up going faster the next year, but on the same course for 2nd)
Geremew is tough. I'm quite impressed with his run today.

That is the question.... Kimetto hasn't done anything significant since running 2:02:57 either, so its hard to get excited about his performance until he does duplicate it.

Geremew had the world's best marathon pacer to run behind for the entire 26.2 miles.
Kipchoge was like Rudisha in the 2012 Olympic final in terms of bringing people to fast times.
Agree Kipchoge = best marathon runner and pacer ever. Thanks for the reminder and Rudisha final. Such a great race to watch!
Glad that somebody started a thread on this. Guys that run fast in Dubai never seem able to replicate those times elsewhere. Geremew has been able to put up two impressive performances in a row since his great run in 2018 Dubai. He may never match this performance or he continue to run well.
I'm pretty sure they serve epo at the aid stations in Dubai.

Kipchoge helped Geremew dethrone Bekele Kenenisa to become the new ETHIOPIAN Record holder. Going forward however, none of the top two Ethiopians will follow Kipchoge if another chance arises. Because following Kipchoge is pure torture. Shura Kitata realized that and had to let go.
In my opinion Kipchoge was never in trouble. He left it late to spice things up for the fans!
Here's the way I look at it. Kipchoge is 34 years old now. In most cases long distance runners seem to peak somewhere between 30 - 33 years of age. I don't think Kipchoge will be able to improve much more at this point. Mosinet Geremew is only 27 years old. Unless he gets injured or loses motivation there is no reason to think he cant improve. At this point if Kipchoge even slips a "little" he could easy lose a race to someone like Geremew.
In another 10 or 12 years he'll be ready to retire, like Gebrselassie.
