Thoughts on this? To be honest, I'm not sure how much credibility I would give this just because flotrack looks for any excuse to hype something up. Anyone know if this is actually going to happen? Seems like a pretty new concept to me.

Bunch of BS, should move it up in distance to 12k.

This is a good idea, precisely for the reasons expressed in the document. I bet this will get passed soon.
Now all they have to do is move women to 8k
I hope they don't. Their argument is that they want every meet to be the exact same distance. I don't see what's wrong with having a range of distances.
They should move it to 8K. Why the h*ll would you race 8ks all year and then make the regional and national meets 10k? That's just stupid, 8K is a great distance and it should lineup. Though I do agree with moving the women up to 8K and having the race distance be uniform across genders.
Also if you’re racing the 8k it just makes it that much different from track ( no 8k in track) which would be cool
How idiotic are they if they don't make the distances the same for men and women? That's just stupid.
I like the 8k for both though since we are in AMERICA, I would prefer 5 MILES!!
Believe it when I see it. The coaches committee has never had much of an issue with 10K before now…
Not for this. Been waiting to get to college and be able to run these 10k’s because the longer the distance the better I do comparatively. How are you gonna take the 10k away after almost 50 years of doing it like this? Its tradition, everybody can plan for it and expect it. Its one of the greatest parts of cross country.
Good move and females should run 8k as well. In line with World XC being equal distance for men and women at senior level.
8k for both men and women makes sense. Although I think NCAA D1 should add a 15k road national championship in the spring. Then do away with the 5k and 10k on the track. This would make all the other track participants happy to not have to wait around for those long races. Who wants to run in circles 25 times anyway. Also a 15k would help to develop thoners of the future by promoting more mileage and long tempos.
6 isn't long enough for women. 8 will really get the job done.
Have wanted this change for years.
8k enables a far greater range of athlete to be competitive and increases the excitement level.
Never made sense to compete all season at a certain distance to then have a regional and final at a different distance. The regional is a survival event and not really a race at all. The top guys don’t run to win they run to conserve as much energy as possible for NCAA’s. The top teams with enough points amassed during the regular season run to make it in while expending the least amount of energy. Other teams run balls out to try and squeak in and are completely shot when it comes to NCAA’s. Training to run well at 10k leads to more injury having to run way more mileage all the while squeezing in a very tight three season collegiate schedule.
Wonder what the outcomes over the years might have been had it been 8k vs. 10k? Definitely the 1500m, 5000m types would have had greater success and the races would have been faster and more exciting to watch.
8k sounds good but make the courses tougher like what we saw at world xc this year. Rate now it’s a track race on grass
I would rather it be a 8k than a 10k or 12k because these big school already only race like once a season before nationals. As a fan NCAA XC during the regular season is pretty unrewarding.
Women need to bump up to 8k as well. The 6k allows for too much sit and kick by 1500m runners rather than true distance runners.
As a DI coach, I don't necessarily have a problem with moving the men down to 8k (although I prefer it stay at 10k), but the rationale seems goofy. Consistency? Why is consistency so important? You can't get away with running 5-6 10k's during the season - that's simply too taxing physically - so the option of keeping a uniform 10k distance is not realistic - has it ever been that way? The top programs that know they are going to NCAA's would be happy to run one 10k at Wisco or Pre-Nats, jog a 10k at Regionals, and race a hard 10k at Nationals and keep the distance 10k uniform throughout the season. That would be their season. But that's not reasonable for most programs - Most have no choice but to race 6+ times.
Student-athlete welfare? Give me a break. That's a cop-out excuse. Some PC BS.
It would have a bit of an impact on many programs who train and recruit for that distance, but they'd adjust. Maybe a bit of jealousy of the programs that are on the podium every fall.
Either way, the women moving up to 8k should've been proposed a long time ago. How is it possible in this age of feminism that their has not been an outcry to move up in distance or have men/women at a uniform distance?

While we’re at it, let’s go ahead and raise their hurdles to men’s heights, change 100m hurdles to 110, and have them throw the same weighted implements in the throw events. And change their heptathalon to a full decathlon with standard male distances. If women want equality then give them equality across the board.
Just make everything 10k then damn
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
