Coach Canova Renato once had two very promising junior athletes. One of them was Geoffrey Kirui who ran 26:55 as a junior. The other was Gilbert Kirui, a steeple chase specialist who won silver in world juniors 2012 behind Conseslus Kipruto. Gilbert ran in the diamond leagues in the years that followed, reducing his 3000m steeple chase PB to 8:09. He also won some cross country races in Spain or Portugal. Then he disappeared. If my memory can be relied upon, Gilbert at least in 2013 or 2014 was based in Japan. About the same time he disappeared, another Gilbert Kirui emerged in the USA. He was a freshman at Iona College. He ran quite well though obviously no where in the level of Geoffrey Kirui's brother. I looked up his rooster info and it is stated that he is from Keringet and went to Chebara primary or high school. I found this very interesting because Geoffrey Kirui and his brother live and train in Keringet in the neighborhood of Chebara. Can someone enlighten me if the Iona's Gilbert Kirui is the same 2012 world junior 3000m steeple chase silver medalist? If so, what happened that his performance took a nose-dive? If not, where is Geoffrey Kirui's brother? Thanks.
