You answered your own question with the first two sentences of your 2nd paragraph. They are great runners because of genetics and not from running to and from school at altitude.

Another amazing co-incidence is that that map also looks like a map of the geographic distribution of EPO busts in the last 20 years.

Bulgarian records definitely need upgrading too (1500 3:39, 10k road 29:27 - by the same person). They surely should be dominating European 1500 running rather than pasty faced Norwegians and Scots.

The likelihood that yDNA has anything to do with elite running ability is virtually nil, particularly considering that women from the same area have been equally successful.

East Africans are good at distance running because their food intake is among the lowest in the world. They have to be efficient movers.

The fastest Arabs are from northwest Africa because that's where Arabs are into running. Kenyans are faster than Sudanese or Chadians for the same reason. It's a niche sport, not practiced everywhere, those who are into it are way ahead of those who are not.

The only two truly top-level Somalians have been Bile and Farah.
