Oregon's Jessica Hull puts up NCAA leading 4:31.03 mile as Arkansas RS frosh Lauren Gregory runs 4:32

Not a big surprise. Gregory was a prep standout who faced some injuries as an upperclassmen, makes sense that she would show this kind of improvement after a long time of being healthy. Arkansas women are looking very impressive though.

Hull just ran a second faster than her season best from last year. I heard word from someone at Oregon's camp that they've only done one speed session so far, everything else strength. Expect big things from Hull at nationals. She plays down a lot, but I think the DMR/3k double win is in her wheelhouse (same for Rainsberger and Jones) after what we saw this XC season. Especially with Susan Ejore making huge strides this season (could see her running the 1200 on DMR), the DMR might be wrap..

Dani Jones has her #. Hopefully they pick the same individual event at nationals but we should at least see a matchup in the DME. I don’t see Jones losing the mile or 3k

Don't leave out Kelati (who is not known for her speed). According to TFRRS, she solo'd a 4:33.4 (altitude adjusted) mile Saturday at a small home meet. She of course won't run the mile at NCAA's, but that effort points to something impressive at 3k and 5k if she pushes the pace from the gun.

That's impressive speed for Kelati as I've always seen her as a strictly XC oriented runner. This bides well for her shot at the 5k title. Having that said, I think the 5k will be fast and can't see her matches Hull/Jones etc coming back from the 5k.

It will be interesting to see what events Jones picks. I'm not sure if Colorado will field a DMR. 2 years ago when they won they had not went all in for the DMR in a while. Huge part of why they didn't last year was Jones dealing with an injury. If Jones does the mile/3k double, that could get interesting. It certainly would make things MUCH better for Hull. Doesn't have to deal with Jones in the DMR and one less race before the 3k.

Tuohy if put in the right race is for sure capable of beating Hull's 4:31

All of the Colorado 800 kids are on the transfer block so we'll see how that DMR looks I guess

Should we really be proud of a time 20 seconds behind the world record. What would we say if Joe Blow of Oregon runs a 4:03? No one would care.

It looks like Gregory could end being better than her high school rival, Brie Oakley.

I agree! I’ve been saying all along that I felt like Oakley should have gone to CU. I think Cal was the wrong place for her.

That being said, though I would have liked to see Gregory at CU as well, Arkansas is a great program for her.

That whole buffs DMR team is still around - one of the Mann sisters on the 400 + Hurta, Scholl and Jones. The Jones comeback on the 1600m leg at NCAA's was epic, as she made up about 70m against a national caliber field (who chose to run tactically), and then was still able to win the kick. The amazing thing about that team was that Wetmore kind of slapped it together for the MPSF meet so the youngsters could get some big meet experience and then they went out and won both MPSF and NCAA's.

If they put that team back together, Jones is still Jones and Hurta, Scholl and the Mann's have all made nice improvements.
