Saw the race . Great finish , Murph was only .03 a second behind in a pr . Not too sad
Calling it now. Brazier is probably the most talented runner ever, if he can train consistently without getting injured, he will run under 1:40 for 800m. Future world record holder at 800m and the potential GOAT at 800m.
Agreed. Glad he is with NOP now. Will be on a great strength routing, using altitude sleeping and training properly, sports psychologist, etc, etc. He will have every advantage that Nike can offer now and should really have a great career.
1:45.27 by Aggie Devin Dixon in Lubbock today.
Tremendous finish. Having these two guys compete for the next five to ten years is going to be fun.
They know what they're doing training speed-based 800m guys at Texas A and M, and they brought Brazier to a 1:43.55 as a freshman, but still I think that for rounds and for his career peak, he will be better off at NOP because he is the unique 800m guy who has both very good speed, a 45 split, and significant endurance off of low mileage, a 15:xx guy in xc in high school as well as 3:59 in December 2017. Giving him some more endurance is going to pay off and I really hope that he competes in the mile and 1500m as well, because he has the ability to go very fast, considering how easily and quickly he closed that 3:59 at the very beginning of his season.

Just stop.
He wont beat Murphy again till after 2020
I’m not sure which one I like better from a running perspective, but Brazeir just seems to have a more likable character.

To race sub-1:40 800m: 1) Need a sub-45.00 FAT 400m man. 2) 2.25 pounds per inch or less. 3) Athlete has to be willing to go on at least three 15K or 10 mile runs a month ages 17 to 22. 4) Athlete has to train and race from ages 12 to 22 without major injuries. Achilles severe strains are considered major injuries even though no complete rupture.
I like that there are two competitive US guys in an event- hopefully they can race a few times this spring- maybe set up races at a couple of the major relay meets that already have the crowds.
Good for the sport- like the 1971 Dream Mile between Ryan and Liquari.
Nice early race for both. Brazier is learning to race and it is good to see. His ability to essentially time trial and run fast times has made him a name to watch but he has needed a couple of years of experience to learn how to race in close competitive situations.
Murphy's style of running is more suited to outdoors where he has more room to be patient and rely on his strength to come from behind but there is no shame in falling short by a step to a speedster like Brazier in an early season indoor meet.
Anyone else surprised that the two best 800 talents in a generation have ended up in the same program? It seems a rarity.

It's not the same program. One is coached by Pete Julian and the other is coached by Salazar.

I think Brazier is smart enough to know if he really wants to progress he needs to train with the best. I hope they put him in some 1500/mile races. He has so much upside with his initial low mileage training. I think he could be one of the best milers in the world if he actually focused on it.

I wish Robby Andrews has signed with Nike & NOP. Andrews really struggled those first few years as a pro and a big part of that was because he lacked structure and was goofing-off at home. Just watch the Flotrack driven series on him from a few years ago.
I notice the same thing with Brazier at the 2016 trials and his last few years. Brazier was very smart to join NOP. It gives him a ton of structure and support. Everything is taken care of for him. Imagine if Andrews has that? He’d be a totally different athlete. Given how 2016 played out he may even be a gold medalist.
I’m not sure it’s a smart thing for a guy who just spent a year out with an Achilles injury to race an indoor 800m after three weeks of training and only one speed session and follow the race with a workout. The goal should be for him to train lightly and race an entire season. Get him some race experience that will get him really for next years olympics.

Both Murphy and Brazier have Achilles issues. I hope both are holding back a bit. I hope both Murphy and Brazier are focused on earning medals at 2019 W.C. in 6 1/2 months.
Thoughts about brazier saying his longest run is only 8.1 miles??
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
