Sounds like Engels is very fit (might be able to get 1,000m record) and he was pretty honest when asked what he thought when he learned training partner Yomif Kejelcha was also going to be in the Wanamaker mile.
"I was kind of pissed actually. It’s usually all Americans and Nick Willis, you know. And now we have Ethiopian in there and you have to deal with that,” he said.
(Engels was dead on on that one. It's amazing how view African runners have been in the Wanamaker mile)
When asked what Kejelcha had that he didn’t, Engels laughed and said “genetics” before saying, “I guess we’re all on a level playing field in reality, but he’s lived at altitude his whole life and trained at altitude his whole life.”
