I’ve only taken off 3 days and have done nothing but sit in classes and walk my dog for about 45 minutes. I already feel like I’m getting out of shape? Is this really happening or am I just psyching myself out? I don’t know how I can make it through these 7 days of no running or cross training let alone the week after that with only light running and cross training. I feel like I’m sabotaging my hard-earned fitness by doing nothing this week.
Take the time off... one week just enjoying life without running (it's possible)... next week do some cross training... that's it...
Here is why... if you don't take advantage of this time off it's almost certain that by the end of track... when you want to run real fast... your chances of being injured or burnt out at that time are much much greater....
And, no, you will not lose that much fitness... sure, yes, you will lose sharpness and some fitness level but assuming you stay healthy you will be back in no time.
This is your answer... chill out... enjoy the down time and then get back after it... you have many years of running ahead of you if you so choose. It doesn't all have to be done this semester...
