Forgot to say...yes, I was checking splits at the mile points. When I saw the 5:55, I thought: wow, that did not feel sub-6:00.

Hi all,
Better late than never, I suppose? This was a pretty hit or miss week for me training wise. Had an okay workout on Tuesday, and a very good workout on Thursday, as well as what I suppose is an acceptable race on Saturday. Fortunately, things have been going much better this week, which I'll update you all with on Sunday.
M: 0
T: 7.5 with 3.5 mile tempo @ 5:49 average. Felt alright, pretty hot and humid when I did this at 4pm
W: 7
R: 7.5 incluing 4.75 fartlek which was 3x(4min on, 2 min off) with 2 min easy jog rest. Overall average was 6:05 on rolling terrain which I was very happy with.
F: 0, travel to NC for race
S: 9 with "8k" (300-400m short, likely) race on rolling/hilly terrain. Time was 27:38. Didn't wear spikes and wasn't able to get much of a warmup in. Was pretty pleased with the overall effort, but would have liked to see a much better result.
Total: 31, ouch
Everybody, sorry to barge into your esteemed company unannounced, but I just can't help myself.
OutsideRunner, what has happened to you???
Two years ago, you were lamenting the narrow miss of a sub 3 goal at NYC, and then you missed a turn at the next marathon due to some poor direction on the course -- all of this in an epic thread that captivated and entertained millions of LetsRun enthusiasts and will forever dwell deep within the anals of LetsRun lore. And then, I blink my eyes and you're ripping out an untapered 6:11.5 paced 20 miler?
I'll need to go back in time through these training threads, but can you tell me what the heck just happened? :) I take it that you've claimed your sub-3 victory along the way somewhere? And now you're shooting for somewhere around 2:45? This is astounding progress, and I'm dying to ask: how did you do it?!
Are there any particular things that you have learned or done differently that have led to this breakthrough?
I'm all ears!! :)

slo - It is never wrong to be cautious in the early part of a marathon, as there is plenty of time to speed up. In the 20-miler, we went out at 6:27, 6:19, and then rolled it down 6:0x. So, that is how I expect to approach things at Richmond. Certainly, I will be paying careful attention to how I feel.
see what happens when I step away for a few months. I don't remember details but I thought you were working on sub-3 and here you are looking at 2:4x to 2:3x marry times. Smokes!

A recurring sock order is a great idea.
It rained all last night and the race director sent out an email this morning saying the course is already muddy. Going to keep raining all day and there is a flash flood warning tonight. Hopefully the mud will be bit of an equalizer and I can stay near the front longer.
Mrs. Team 1 does all our laundry (bless her!) but she is hyper-active about tossing socks that don't match (even if they might already be in the drawer! UGH!) so I decided to just go all-in on one single design of socks that will never suffer from that fate. They still do disappear at an alarming rate. My 6-pairs every 3 months pretty much puts me at a steady state. WTH!

Thanks for listening.
What? Huh?
Toadlips - Thanks so much for barging in. I am at work right now. So much has happened in the last two years and I have certainly learned a lot. Mostly I just started from scratch after NYC and started "being outsiderunner." The flyers started to come, and it has been a joy ever since. Gotta go now. Perhaps one of the thread regulars could fill in the blanks?

Yeap. Payroll deduction FTW (GT this is NOT layaway). I wore them today and that is the last time they will be worn when not a half marathon. 5k/10k will still be the flyknit streak so I figure...what 10-15 races... that’s 2-3 years. So not terrible.

HEH HEH HEH HEH ANALS HEH HEH HEH HEH
Someone misspells annals once and everyone else has to throw a plug in where ever they can get away with it. Just sick.

Anal could have been a mistake the first time but No. 2 just stinks.
This is LRC and it would have been a mistake to let such a wonderful spelling mistake go by uncelebrated.

only a stool would let it pass...
nothing special about my socks; just comfortable thin cotton poly blend that i can always find a match for if one gets lost. i don't wear them out. they just mysteriously disappear... no amount of accusations at Mrs. Team1 reveals any new clues about where they go...
question for the group re: M pace long runs several weeks before a marathon. i'm a little (a lot) undertrained so i'm balancing earning time on my feet with some race pace muscle memory and i have tentatively planned my two longest runs 4 and 2 weeks out from the race. First was going to be 20 with 16 at M pace plus 15 seconds. Second was going to be 23 with 18 at M. but considering scrambling the paces (running M pace for 16 and M+15 for the 18).
thoughts?
Bahahaha my buddy im helping w coaching (he getting fast quick) is a recovering ultra guy and we have an inside joke about “time on your feet” so when I read that it cracked me up.
pewow - Nice effort in the mud! Glad you had some fun.
Allen - Will be heading home from work soon...and probably pick up a nice $6 bottle of pinot on the way home. What's on the agenda for you tonight? Did you get in a long run?

Long run yesterday afternoon from job site. Short run this morning from home. Hamstring still sore, but not too bad if I don't overstride.
A bottle of red and a bottle of white are open. Down to two IPA's in the fridge. Undecided for the moment. Trying to mow the lawn, but tractor keeps dying. Also trying to set up my phone to watch NBC-5 Chicago in the morning, but I'm getting a prompt to sign in with my DirecTV account. Don't want to get any additional charge on my bill, though ...
Enjoy your Saturday evening!
