Start training now: Armory NYC Indoor Marathon and Marathon Relay April 12-14

At last year's Armory Indoor Marathon, Caitriona Jennings lapped Lindsey Scherf in the women's race. Caitriona led by almost 2 laps near the halfway point before Caitriona slowed slightly. Lindsey chipped away and after a bunch of miles, she passed Caitriona and was behind by less than a lap. A few miles later Lindsey passed Caitriona en route to a new world record.

So, not only did Lindsey come back from being lapped, but she broke the world record in the process.

I'm hoping to spend some significant time at the armory this winter. I think they do like an open house thing for people to do workouts in the winter, right?

The Armory opens on November 12 for adult training. 37.5 hours of training time for adults 5 days weekly (Monday - Friday). Opens at 6:30am 3x per week and until 10pm 2x per week. Lockers, showers, etc. cost is $275.

Is this a thing that random hobbyjoggers can sign up for (like a 2:40 marathon dude), or do you actually have to have a shot at breaking the record?

Regular runners can sign up for the team marathons. Each runner is allowed to run 3x, whatever distance he/she wants. Would be fun if a team could go sub-2, or at least faster than the World Records.

Pretty random. There's was a low-key half marathon going on in Riverside park. I've got my dogs there in the grass off leash and start talking to this other guy about his dog. Nice guy. We talk for a while as our dogs are playing. Introduce ourselves. Talk for probably 30 minutes. Later we're leaving and he asks what I do, and I say I run a running website, LetsRun.com, that covers running news. He says, "what website?." I repeat "LetsRun.com". He says, "You're Weldon Johnson?"

Ha ha. He's an LRCer. Started running later in life and likes the forums. Said his wife and kids would be glad to know he met me as they used to make fun of him for being on runningboynews.com all the time.

Is the track USOT eligible? The race would attract a major assault on the indoor record if two birds could be knocked out with one stone.

I always wondered what it would be like living ing NYC.

It must be difficult to get to a grocery store and then get the milk and ice cream home on the subway before spoiling.

When visiting I have never seen somebody carrying grocery bags onto the subway.

I have only been in town during NYC Marathon weekend.

Welcome to NY, Wejo. We have a solid contingent of letsrunners in Central Park Track Club, perhaps say hello if you see us one morning. (Members of the local clubs tend to wear a lot of club gear day-to-day.) The soft-target for the indoor marathon is the co-ed relay. I calculated it last year, you'd need like 7 people who could each run a few 2K segments at about 5:20 pace.

A heck of a lot of us live within a block or two of a bodega -- place to get staples. You'll see plenty of people on the subway laden with Trader Joe's bags on the UWS.

I have a cooler bag. I took milk and frozen berries on the subway yesterday. Many people in new York use reusable grocery bags

I also now when I visit suburbs wonder why in the world you would need a grocery store that enormous.

Also im willing to bet average time in NYC from grocery store to home is the among the lowest in US

Correction: substitute Laura Manninen and Kate Pallardy in 2017, for Lindsey Scherf and Caitliona Jennings in 2018 and the rest is accurate. :-0

In 2017 American Kate Pallardy had lapped Laura Manninen and then some in the Armory NYC Indoor Marathon. Laura was a metronome and came back from more than a lap down to win the race and set a then world record...subsequently surpassed by Scherf in early 2018.
