That's how marathon running works. Same with hyped record attempts, only to have the runner DNF and then tell the press about his/her ongoing nagging injury. Happens all the time.
Naw. WE do that as regular runners. You sign up for a race hoping that you will be healthy by then. It's not like people have to buy tickets to see the race, then that would be different, and would be considered hyping the race.
I learned my lesson, and I don't sign up for races months in advance. I usually wait until the the week of the race to sign, even though the price is much higher. If I'm having issues during my tempo runs related to the distance that I'm running, then I know that I am not healthy enough to race.
