So, after watching the race last Sunday, how many of you Americans are thinking about running Berlin next year?
I ask that as a European who watches New York every year and am occasionally tempted to register...

I don't understand why there has to be so many threads about an arbitrary time trial. I'm getting bored of them all.
I watched the race in television and recognized that some of the later start waves like 4 h+ were starting more than one hour after the elite start. So when these runners hit maybe the 10 k mark, Kipchoge was already giving interviews.
So much about the great myth that in a big city marathon you can compete directly with the worlds best (which would never be possible in a track race, though). The truth is you maybe run the same course on the same day, but you are definitely not in the same race.
However, Berlin is much too crowded with these many participants (40000+). If you like a fast marathon in Germany for a PR I would chose maybe Hanover or Bremen. Enough runners that you have a few hundreds around you even if you are sub 3 h, but not so many that you don't have more than half a square yard of free space around you and always someone standing on your feet the whole run like in Berlin.
I had a look on the results one of these days and was surprised by the high numbers of runners from USA, Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand. Germans were just about 16% in that time frame I analyzed (2:40-2:50). This was for another thread where someone running 2:45 complained about the rude behaviour of the "German" runners around him... So I believe the Berlin marathon is quite popular in these countries.
What is the cost of a plane ticket, hotel, and food for a mini-vacation on the weekend in Berlin?
It looks like a great course. I'd love to finish by running through the Brandenburger Tor.
American men regularly now run sub 13 5k and sun 27 10k but marathons stuck at 2:07. What gives?
