First the article was more about Gault bragging about his 800 retweets. No one care jonny.
Secondly he almost certainly violated copyright law by stealing the video from NBC and posting it on twitter.
I just reread the article. There is no mention of how many times it's been rewteeted.
You must be in the industry as the average joe doesn't really give a s*** how man times something is retweeted or whether NBC could make a copyright claim against a few second clip.
We could easily make a "fair use" claim to the clip.
Wow- after reading the actual text of US copyright law I'd say someone could even argue that one could have a sports highlight show and use video highlights from sporting events and it would be allowed.
Maybe we should do that for Diamond League meets. Someone argue against me. Here's what it says:
1976 Copyright act:
Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 106 and 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright.

So John clearly used this clip for comment and arguably news reporting in my book.
