If we are talking about track then
I would say either the 3:43 or the 1:40.91 then 12:37.
Imagine being able to say you ran 1:51 twice to run 3:43.

Jim Ryun's 1'39 800, 3'24 1500, and 3'41 mile in the summer of '67 (summer of love).

Nobody outside the US cares about 2 miles. I have been following T&F for more than 30 years and was hardly aware of the fact that this distance is run somewhat frequently and official records are kept. It is about as interesting to me as 4k or 6k record would (actually less because these two I could somewhat estimate without the help of a pocket calculator).
Doesn't matter if it isn't a widely recognized distance. He's still the only man to ever run 2 sub 4:00 miles in a row.
Wayne Gretzky with 2,857 points in the NHL
Best running related record is Usain Bolt with his 9.58

All records:
1. Bekele 26:17
2. Bekele 12:37
3. Rudisha 1:40.9
Honorable mention to Kipchoge in Breaking2.
Rudisha's is the greatest record that's 100% not doped, and also the most well-run.
Records that are not that great:
All Komen's records. Would be amazing if they were honest races, but Komen was obviously pumped up as hell.
Kimetto was probably doped as well, and 2:02:57 is nevertheless a weak record, as there's been many times it's been close to broken, and we know human potential is at least 2:00:25 anyways.
His 200 meter record is most impressive to me, he ran faster than the previous world record twice....

You got it. Amazing you are the only one on LR who owns this fact.
But, you've forgotten one more... his ~44.0. Which my own DVTT(tm) analysis shows to be 43.97 in reality.
This was discussed last year in the Manangoi 400 thread. Some claim it was only ~44.2 but acknowledge that a revision to 43.97 is overdue.

Definitely not. Kejelcha could probably break it now if he tried, and Bekele probably definitely could have had he been prompted. I could even see Farah running such a time under the right conditions (he is the 2 mile indoor record holder).
Honestly, I think it's Kimmeto's WR. I know it's only been around for 4 years, and it is by no means unbreakable. But it takes real courage to attempt to run so fast over such a long distance. Perhaps the marathon WR should always be considered the best record.
I would count Radcliffe's WR as the greatest, but I'm still skeptical of it. Considering no one else in all this time has even come close, and there has been a flood of talent to the event, I just don't quite buy it 100%. Still, if it's legit, it's probably the greatest record.
100 points in an NBA game, or 20,000 women. Take your pick, neither will be broken.
It obviously matters because the distance is run *far* less frequently and far fewer record attempts have been made compared to e.g. 1500m, 3k or 5k.
