Full grown men at 125 pounds has a lot to do with their success at distance running.
Thanks for sharing. It's important to recognize that the success of East African running involves more than just altitude, genetics, and poverty. Their dedication, mindset, and development structure are impressive!
Bet it doesn't mentioned decades of unrestricted EPO use with little risk of testers coming to visit (and if they do, they know about it well in advance).
LOLOLOLOL
NOT ONE MENTION OF EPO OR THE ITALIANS?!?!?!?!?
GTFO
Everybody cheats so it's still a level playing ground. If nobody ever cheated the Ethiopians would still rule.
What is really going on here is an over abundance of little men***** who like to run long distances.
****** how many full grown Americans weigh 125 pounds?

Hahahaha Gud scumbag Canova pay them to write this?
Speaking of, does Canova pay the Brooks to use their message board as a platform to deceive everyone?
I don’t know about Brooks, but I sure do hope the Brojos got some money from him.

How many posts on here by Cuntvett?
I will guess at least 3.
Anyway, thank you OP, great article.
I enjoyed it, but I don't really think the author proved his thesis, particularly with regard to poverty. While it may be true that those who are truly poor by even Ethiopian standards have no shot at running successfully, it doesn't change the fact that the relative poverty of these runners, on a global scale, is what makes running a viable way utterly transforming their standard of living. If anything, I think the article strengthened the claim that poverty is a factor.
While I take his point that these runners deserve respect for their character and dedication, I don't think that there's any reason that we can't both respect these runners as dedicated individuals while also acknowledging that there are environmental and genetic factors--unlrelated to their personal character--that make them more likely to be successful runners.
Ethiopia has very little foreign influence and few foreign coaches. Try again.

I'm pretty sure if Americans could buy EPO over the counter we too would be pretty dominant in distance running . . .
I know a lot of you younger guys just post to troll or whatever, but...
If you can read that article and react with "EPO!" you either have limited reading comprehension or you suffer from the same problem we all had at your age: closed-mindedness and an predilection to treating new information as a brain-devouring amoebic infection.

Country with EASY ACCESS TO PEDS
No, no, no. You see it's because they work hard and have a hunger drive than you lazy westerners.
I might have been born at night, but not last night.
Country with easy access to drugs. But you want me to believe that it is just their training and BS?
I am done with this fake news.
They are doped to the gills.
You guys think EPO is a magic elixir.
Why don't you get on it, and get back to us when you make the Trials.
Oh, right, it won't happen, because EPO is as close to a placebo as 4% is to 4% improvement.

Yeah...right, elite runners have been using rocket fuel for the better part of 3 decades now. ?

We already know you are an idiot and a racist. There was no need for you to take the time to confirm it.
Of course they are doped to the gills. That's nothing racist to say, it is just becoming clear when you read the second Guardian article linked on this thread.
Other pointers: Jama Aden, Dibaba and Bekele's "world records", Mo Farah (doorbell), Canova,...

Canova? He's not going to like that - he's already angry with posters on the 3rd Kenyan caught for doping thread.
