I’ve struggled with runners knee for a little over a year now in my left knee. The main reason for this is I have been unable to identify the cause, but I now feel I am closer to getting some answers.
I ran the 2017 track season in adidas supernovas. Totally fine.
Summer comes around and I get new shoes, I believe they were the adidas energy boost 3 (I had worn the 2’s all of summer 2016 no issue) and immediately I get knee trouble. I did everything EXCEPT what was the obvious thing to do, which was get new shoes. So about 3 months later I switch back to my old supernovas and within a week the pain is gone. This summer is the exact same story except I started wearing Nike zoom fly. I have now switched back to the supernovas and my pain is disappearing. I noticed that the bottoms of the supernovas have a slight angle to them, which may be what is preventing the knee pain? There is a lot of popping in my knee walking around, even when I don’t feel pain. My other theory is that it’s because I went from 0 to 35 mpw at the start of the summer and my body wasn’t ready, but this seems less likely. Does anyone have answers or suggestions? If it is the shoes- am I stuck with only one type of shoe I can wear that won’t give me pain? I have just graduated high school and will be running in college. Thank you.
