I went shopping to Stop & Shop with my senior dad, and when I had the groceries, I unlocked the trunk and unloaded them. However, there was a guy's car whose passenger door was open, which blocked me from entering the driver's seat. My dad, before he got into the passenger seat, was just looking at the guy who was rummaging around the passenger seat of his car. He knew I was there, but didn't move the passenger door so as to let me open my side of the car.
What I did wrong was that I tried to open my car door slightly to see if I could get in, but if I did, I would have hit his passenger door.
I didn't look at the guy directly, but I think I looked at his car. Anyways, I didn't want to make eye contact because I didn't want to turn this into anything more than it is. I just felt dead inside a bit, and waited for him to get the stuff out of his passenger side. Maybe it was 20-30 seconds of silence, and then he left, and then I had enough space to open my car. Then my dad got into the car and something.
I know I'm overthinking so much shite, but should I have said: "Sir, can you please move your car door? It's blocking me from getting into mine."
I don't even talk like that at all! And, that guy and me, we are both from a different ethnicity/race.
I guess what I'm trying to say is I expected him to move out of my way to get into my car, but isn't that a given decency or etiquette among car drivers?
Help me become sociably adjustable!
