She's a big draw, for sure. She's wise to not jump right into DL meets, but I wouldn't be surprised to see her jump into one or two before this year is up.
I'm a British fan of Mary but sorry, she's only a big draw in the US.
And unless she can get down to 4:04/4:05 shape in a month's time it would make no sense for her to run DLs. What good would it do her if she was nearly the length of the home straight behind the winner? There's plenty of good European meetings that would be entirely more appropriate for her probable level ATM. Even maybe a World Challenge meeting like Zagreb at the beginning of September?

Jack Daniels. If you want to add or subtract more or less that’s great but either way you’d be talking about a couple second difference which in this context is irrelevant.
uhhhhhhh tuohy ran 9:05 soooooooo WORONG

It is patently false to think a 9:20 3k is only worth a 10:00 3200m. You don't go from averaging 37.33s for 15 200s to running a 40 by adding one more.

Tell that to Jack Daniels. Anyway, you'd be lucky to run another 40 after giving everything you've got that first 3000 and then being told you actually have another 200 to go. Lets say you are a magician and can somehow still add another 37.33. Big fn deal. So subtract 37.33 seconds from the times listed. And then blow yourself with that extra 2.67 seconds you got leftover.
I was thinking there would either be a 1500 or a 3000 or a 5000, and giving her a lane is justified as she is a HUGE draw, her name alone brings fans and gets people talking just look at how many threads on here there were when she was running and even when not running.
LOL. Is Monaco in the US now? No one outside America knows who she is.
I have almost forgotten who she is. Young fans in the US don’t know her. Only a few people outside of the die hard middle aged US fans remember her. People like Muir will feel bad competing against her at this point.
One year past peak form, she was probably in sub 8:50 shape (she ran 8:58 in a tactical race at world junior), which would have put her in the mix for a spot at Monaco if they cared about age. At 17, with 1:59.5/4:04, she was very much in the mix for a sub 4 in a fast paced race, which she never got in. It would be great if she were to get in that kind of shape again.

I wonder what people like Muir or Houlihan think about Cain at this point. Houlihan and Cain ran their first grown-up nationals in 2013 at Drake. Houlihan was 20, competing on her home track. She ran the 800, and finished next-to-ast in the semis. Cain was 17. She finished 2nd in the 1500 finals, ahead of Rowbury and Uceny. Cain finished 9th in Moscow at Worlds that year; Houlihan was 7th in the NCAA finals.
The next year, Houlihan won the 1500 at NCAAs, and was 7th in the final of the 800 at Nationals. Cain won the 1500 at US Indoors, and once again was 2nd in the 1500 at Nationals, She also won the 3000 at the US and World Juniors.
Houlihan was 21, Cain was 18. It wasn't hard to see who had the brighter future.
This is awesome! Mary Cain seems to have that Alan Webb magic on letsrun. By simply entering a race, she fills our hearts with optimism and keeps us glued to the front page. Win, lose, or anything in between... we’re just happy to have her back! German Fernandez sighting incoming?
We are all hoping for a great return. If she runs a few slow races though,, she will fade out of the LetsRun front page.

Darn, I was hoping she would run Monaco next week
Just looked up Monaco does not have a 1500 or 3000 or 5000 only an 800 which is not her best event, I guess that is why she is not running.

You have to be kidding me, even if they had a 1500 or 3k,Mary has not shown fitness to compete in a diamond league meet.
She will have race a couple of meets or more and show fitness and be competitive.
Full field is up for the Cork women's 3000, this should be a good one. Notably Emily Sisson and Sarah Pagano are also in:

What a story.
