Yes I know Lagat is changing that. Somebody who recorded crazy EPO era times and actually failed a test. But I was looking at the M45 world rankings for last year.
Anthony Whiteman ran 11 seconds faster than anybody else aged 45-49 in the world, and 20 seconds faster in both the 1500 and Mile.
In the 800, 1500, 5000, and 10000 I can only see one African (a Moroccan at 35th or something in the 800m).
Yet this is the age group that would have been in their prime in the EPO era, when the senior ranking lists and Olympic and world finals were totally dominated by Africans.
O.K. so clearly Masters running isn't big in Morocco or Kenya, but you'd expect a few names in the lists surely. At a minimum it shows Africans don't run for the love of the sport but simply for the money.
