Maybe?? I think you are in the very slim minority. What you described is a complete mish mash that doesn't serve anyone.
People that want that info will just go to the internet. One of the parts of RT that I did like was that they did interview some top Masters level runners, some HS runners on the rise and they would talk about their training schedules, races they were targeting etc.. I like seeing what other runners are doing.
As example, I'm sure there are some great stories that came out of this years Boston due to the weather. There's this big up swell in young talent in the USA right now, there are coaches and programs really pushing boundaries. I think that is fertile ground to explore.
As far as the last issue, I think The Barkley Marathon article was probably the best thing IMO and I find ultra running to be a complete joke (at least Laz is in on the joke.) But stuff like that is a lot better than "Run Your Fastest 5k!" or "Avocados More Than Just Guacamole!"
