I agree with Salazar, if we want to win; we better push it to the limit. Better to burn out than to fade away.

Hmmmm, I’m skeptical that Salazar would make such a statement considering his own background - running, even swimming, himself into the ground, or pool bottom - as well as the advice or indeed coaching I believe he gave to Cam Levins.

Young people have so much energy and enthusiasm and that causes them to run so many miles that the stress fractures develop.

This coming from a guy that had a heart attack in his forties .

Coach Dunbar just retired last month.

Very respected in the community, it always seemed like he built his program the right way, by just getting as many kid out for the team as he could and making sure they were having fun and learning. Obviously he knew his stuff, but I think his secret was probably knowing the kids.

I always just got tired. Was 200 miles a week not enough?

Too many miles are what ended Salazar's career.

Trevor is a smart kid, he’s moving on from Brad Hudson who is the king of high mileage and moving onto Boston. Looking forward to following his progression and development in the sport.

Exactly - Salazar has said on video that the best advice he ever got in regard to Rippee was to not give him everything he had to offer in training. Always keep it at 90-95%. Always leave something to be wanted, to move towards for the next season. Seems opposite of what he told Dunbar.

I agree with hardloper. He didn’t tell the kid to go run 100 miles a week. He told him that miles are helpful. To a junior high kid this can mean a lot. Wish I had run more at that age.

No, you've mis-represented the words attributed to Salazar. According to the original post in this thread, Salazar told him: “There’s no such thing as too many miles, kid.” That is UNEQUAL to your claim that Salazar told him that "miles are helpful."
