The freak show at the circus
Soccer.
I'm trying to get into MLS. I'm 5'2.75" and 145 lbs...
I'll be known as "The Winger."
Special moves: Accelerating from walking pace to 7.37 m/s.
In all honesty though, I find that running and soccer are easily related. We might not have the technique, but being aerobically and anaerobically fit means we can receive and run with the ball more. Even though in a pro match, a player is usually in possession of the ball for about 90 seconds, we can do a lot with our feet.

Technique is hugely important. Without it you are nothing. However, without very good aerobic and anaerobic capacity you won't be able to keep up with the pace of the game. When I was about 16 I figured out that I wasn't going to go much further in soccer due to my lack of technical ability. Therefore I switched to XC and track and found I was a lot faster running without the ball.
