It doesnt matter who linda mcmahon works for. The culture of political correctness makes a nightmare for everyone if you stand up to the social justice police, so the WWE caves in just like all other weak corporate scum. That company is total crap to me now, and should be to you too. They sell their souls for money at all costs and any threat by media to try to stifle their profits via bad publicity, and they cave like cowards.
It's not about political correctness. It's just a business decision. They weighed the negative PR they'd get from firing the guy against the negative PR they'd get if they kept him on and the association became widely publicized, and decided that the former was better for them.
Is it really about business? Aren't most of their viewers on the right side of the political spectrum?
This company has built a brand of sports entertainment. To my knowledge, they've never set their identity as defenders of religious tolerance. So the twitter posts of this women don't violate that image. But they DO violate the image of the tough guy or girl who'll stand up to anything, which IS what their form of entertainment is about. I worry that this makes them look more like weak pansies than tough entertainers, which I would expect would hurt their brand much more in both the short run and the long run.
