Unbelievable. Wonder what he could run on the track or on a flat course...
Second was Mathew Kimely that run 27:19!!

“Rhône Kipruto” is American?
Interesting.
I meant, fastest road 10K ever run in the US.
Broke the Central Park record by more than 20 seconds.
Yes, fastest road 10k on US soil. I was surprised set there on a counter clockwise loop of central park.
He won 40k! $10k for win + $30k bonus for breaking course record.
Peachtree Road Race 1996... 27:04
Not record eligible?

You're correct. Maybe OP meant the fastest 10k in Central Park.

Do 10k road courses have to follow marathon course rules for eligibility?
Wow he is fast

Surely there are some standards for road races of whatever distance. There used to a “Spira 10K” (or something like that, sponsored by the shoes with springs in them) in El Paso that had a ton of downhill, and some random Kenyan won it in 25:43 one year (used to be a highlight video on YouTube)

Nope - "aided" course as its technically downhill. Usually the fact that its really warm and pretty much all that aid comes in the first 3 miles then goes sharply uphill before heading down again, keeps the times legit. Record was set on a 65deg day where the fast 2nd mile was blitzed - as in under 4:10 - on a warm day that would be pretty silly but it worked with the good temps.
Not sure what the standards are, the NYRR claimed this to be the fastest 10K ever run on US soil, but I don't think this is the point. PRs run on the Central Park loop course are typically 20-40s slower than PRs run on a flat course.
Running 27:08 on that course is mind boggling; a performance comparable to that of the current road world record (26:44 by Leonard Komon). Indeed, the previous Central Park loop record was a 27:35 run by Komon in his prime. This guy smashed that time by a full 27 seconds.
so you are saying that the only people who are threats to world records for the USA in distance running are those born in Kenya?
This kid is for real!!! I ran in that race and to be that fast on that course, OMG, if he progresses properly and stays out of injuries, he can achieve great things in long distance running, possibly re-write record books!!! Truly amazing performance!!!

Kipruto's time is a pending USA all-comers record, meaning it is the fastest 10-K time every on U.S. soil on a record quality course. A record-quality course is one that is USATF-certified for distance, where the start and finish are not separated by more than 50% of the race distance (no more than 5 km in this case), and the net elevation change is not more than 1m per kilometer of race distance (no more than 10m in this case). The course is actually slightly uphill.
The previous all-comers record was 27:11 by Sammy Kipketer (KEN) from the Crescent City Classic in in 2002. Reference is here:
http://www.usatf.org/statistics/records/view.asp?division=american&location=road&age=all-comers&sport=LDRAlso, Kipruto's 8 km split of 21:45 is a world best. The 8 km point in this race was also certified with automatic timing and race officials present at the split. USATF can recognize this as an all-comers record, too, but IAAF will not because they don't recognize 8 km as a world record distance.

I watched the race and it was weird how easy it looked for both Kirupto and Kimeli. Both of these guys are legitimate threats to the WR on a flat course.
This is a different course than the course where Komon set the previous CR of 27:35 in 2011. Both are loops of Central Park, but this year's course is in the reverse direction. Komon's splits in that race were 13:26, 14:09.
Was there drug testing? (Not that passing a drug test means anything in 2018.)

Why couldn’t it be? No more ethnic than “Leo Manzano” or “Alberto Salazar.”
FYI both Rhonex Kipruto and Mathew Kimeli are coached by Brother Colm O’Connell (David Rudisha’s coach) in Iten. I was fortunate to be able interview both Rhonex & Mathew about 6 months ago. Although Bro Colm holds youth training camps for about 50 young athletes during school holidays he only coaches 4-6 senior athletes.
Rhonex, along with Celliphine Chespol, have been setting the Kenyan high school scene alight for a while. I'll post this here for the usuals who'll be questioning his age and sneering he's come out of "nowhere", at Olympics in Tokyo.
Stephen Sambu was 2 minutes back. These guys are some kind of talent.
