Maybe I am just not used to running in Dpikes anymore but when I tried the Zoom Victory 3 spikes and the Zoom Streak LT3 Racing flat on a track I was way faster in the LT3’s.. running laps at low-5 pace with the LT3 whole running low-6 pace in the Victory 3 with similar perceived effort.
1min per mile slower in Victory over LT3? Hyperbole I assume. Or maybe you were running on concrete....
Last week i did 2x(600, 400, 200), with the first set in LT3s and the second set in the Victory. Paces were 4:20-4:00. I've always felt that spikes increase the elastic energy return you get out of the foot/calf/achilles due to the stiffness of the spike plate and flat or negative heel drop. That feeling was pretty apparent in my workout even though it was my first time to wear spikes in 5 years. I nearly injured myself in those 1200m. My achilles is way too inflexible these days. So i'll be opting for the LT3s in my upcoming 5k and run a few seconds slower.
