We know Kipchoge is unbeatable in these paced marathon parades. He only has won one unpaced marathon, the Rio Olympic marathon, which had watered-down competition.
It's high time that he pays a visit to New York this fall and wins a real marathon rather than these glorified parades. Get on it, NYRR.
Kipchoge needs to win New York and/or Boston (real marathons) to secure his legacy as the GOAT

I don’t disagree - I would love to see him run a tactical NYC but he wants the WR and I suspect he only had a few more races left in the bank

Win a 2ndrate marathon run on joke/gag courses, which can only attract serious talent by overpaying?
Why the fuck would he waste his time doing that?!?? -

Just no. Boston, especially, is slipping in the prestige stakes. I say attack the WR in Berlin and hope for good weather. -

Nobody outside US cares about US marathons. -

And hope for his Nike shoes not to fall apart during the WR attempt this time. -

Real marathons have hills. -

World records are cool and all, but what is cooler is winning marathons without a legion of pacers. -

Idiot. 0/10 -
Only Americans think American marathons are the best. The level of competition is nowhere near London & Berlin. If he wants, Kipchoge can spend another 3-4 years chasing WRs and then complete his bucket list with NY & Boston wins when he's 38-40. Easy.
-
The American marathoners have second rate competition. He’s already won Chicago which (prior to removing pacers) had the best elite fields in the US.
I’m on the east coast, and personally, don’t want to see him run Boston or NYC. Although, he could prob win NYC after Berlin on 80% effort.
In fact, I’m UPSET that Rupp keeps running American marathons instead of going to the top marathons (London, Berlin). -
If your defenition of tactical is running slow and kicking 5-3 miles to the end- then London and Berlin aren’t tactical because they are run fast.
A marathon with pacers is also a tactical marathon. It is paced and tactical. After 30k tactic starts with only the heavy guns and not with all kind of Ruppsters and Centros and Farahs. And even when the pacers are still running there is also tactic. Kipchoge didn’t run in the same spot today as Bekele or Farah. He runs right near the pacers.
Now the fact that there are no defined pacers in those US marathons doesn’t mean they aren’t paced. A guy like Rupp is always paced- because he sits. The pacing of the women marathon today made the race very interesting, much more interesting than watching a 20 guys group running 3:15 per k and kicking 3 miles to the end. -
Kipchoge has already made fun of your homeboy Ruppster in a so called tactical marathon. Rupp looked like a mess there. As long as he doesn’t go sub 2:05 you americans should sit quietly
-
Kipchoge demonstrated today that destroying the world record would be elementary for him.
-
I agree. Why screw with running Boston or New York (both slow courses) He could go to Rotterdam or Amsterdam for fast courses. He'll still make $$$$$ for just the appearance money. How about Tokyo Marathon.
-
Kipchoge first needs the WR to secure his legacy as the GOAT. He will keep running Berlin and London until he gets it. He is 33. So, the next two years are probably his last chance to get it before age becomes a factor. After that, it would be nice to see him run NY. Haile crashed out at NY and left many wondering whether he could race a marathon or was just good at time trialing. Kipchoge is a much better racer at the marathon than Haile was. But to secure his legacy, it would be nice to see him dominate a race like NY with lots of surges and hills.
-
Yes, he'll still be the greatest regardless, but enough with these Mickey Mouse courses like London and Berlin.
A convincing win against a stacked field in Boston or NY would put him even a notch higher in the pantheon of great marathoners, more than chasing seconds year after year just for the sake of a WR.
